The Town Supervisor is a voting member of the Town Board and presides over its meetings. In this role, the Supervisor helps carry out Town Board decisions and represents the Town in matters related to its financial operations. As the chief elected official, the Town Supervisor serves as the public face of the Town, representing Dannemora at community events and working closely with local, county, state, and federal officials to advocate for the Town’s interests.

 

The Town Supervisor also serves as the Town’s budget officer and is responsible for preparing the tentative annual budget, along with recommendations for the Town Board’s consideration. The Town Board may review, revise, and amend the proposed budget before adopting the final annual budget. In addition, the Town Supervisor certifies payrolls and disburses Town funds upon warrant of the Town Clerk and following audit and approval by the Town Board.

 

To ensure the day-to-day operation of town government, the Town Board may delegate certain administrative and supervisory duties to the Town Supervisor. This delegation allows town business to continue between monthly Town Board meetings. However, the Town Board retains its statutory authority and may not relinquish or transfer its core responsibilities.
